In "We've Been Too Patient," James Forman Jr. argues that America's imprisonment crisis is a moral failure that we can no longer afford to ignore. He offers a powerful indictment of the system, and a roadmap for reform.

Forman begins by recounting his own experience with mass incarceration. His father, James Forman Sr., was a civil rights activist who was imprisoned for his work. Forman Jr. grew up visiting his father in prison, and he saw firsthand the devastating impact that incarceration can have on families and communities.

As an adult, Forman Jr. became a lawyer and worked on criminal justice reform issues. He saw that the system was deeply flawed, and that it was disproportionately harming people of color. In 2014, he founded the Vera Institute of Justice, a non-profit organization that works to transform the criminal justice system.

In "We've Been Too Patient," Forman Jr. argues that mass incarceration is a moral failure. He writes that "the United States imprisons more people than any other country in the world. We have more people in prison than China, Russia, and Iran combined." He argues that this is a "national disgrace" and that it is "time for us to confront this crisis head-on."

Forman Jr. offers a powerful indictment of the criminal justice system. He writes that "the system is broken" and that it is "designed to punish, not to rehabilitate." He argues that the system is "racist" and that it "targets people of color." He also argues that the system is "expensive" and that it is "a waste of taxpayer money."

Forman Jr. concludes by offering a roadmap for reform. He calls for a "new approach to criminal justice" that is "based on compassion, not punishment." He argues that we need to "invest in education and job training" and that we need to "end the war on drugs."

"We've Been Too Patient" is a powerful and timely book. It is a must-read for anyone who is concerned about the state of the criminal justice system in the United States.
